SIKKIM - STATE ANNUAL PLAN 2001-2002FISHERIESDEMAND NO. 11Fisheries is an important area of economic activity enabling the rural people to derive the additional income to improve the living standard. The State has vast resources of water bodies in the form of streams, rivers, lakes, ponds and perennial springs. Fisheries Directorate has proposed the annual plan 2001-2002 of the volume Rs 40.00 lakhs. 1. Direction and Administration Rs 9.50 lakhs The provision is meant for the creation of one post of Joint Director, two posts of Deputy director and one post of accounts Office cum Administrative Officer. The other fund is meant to meet the usual expenditure of the Directorate. 2. Development of Inland Fisheries Rs 0.50 lakhs The provision is kept for subsidizing the cost of the fish seed among the farmers. 3. Fish Farmers Development Agency Rs 3.00 lakhs This is centrally sponsored scheme and the pattern of assistance is revised to 75.25. The scheme component is Rs 2.00 lakhs and Rs 1.00 lakh is meant to bear the expenditure on contingency., The outlay constitutes for tank construction, training stipend to farmers and cost of vehicle. It is proposed to benefit 150 farmers under this scheme. 4. Research and Survey Rs 0.50 lakh The outlay is proposed to maintain the research section of the Directorate. The maintenance of state Aquarium is done by the same outlay. 5. Trout Fish Seed Rs 3.50 lakhs It is proposed to increase the production of seed from the existing farms. Yoksum and Lachen farms will be maintained to get the maximum benefit. 6. Carp and Carp Fish Seed Production Rs 12.50 lakh It is proposed to construct the demonstration farm at 14th Mile, East Sikkim Rangpo Farm will be fenced properly. Rothak is maintained with the outlay. The grass carp seed will be produced from this farm. 7. Conservation of Riverine Fisheries Rs 6.00 lakhs The outlay is meant to meet the expenditure for enforcement of Fisheries Act to check illegal fishing cases. 8. Propagation of Mahseer Rs 1.50 lakhs The outlay is to meet the expenditure of maintenance of Mahseer Farm, Bagwa. Mahseer seedings would be stocked at Rangeet dam at Legship. 9. Other Expenditure Rs 2.00 lakh The outlay is meant to meet the expenditure of maintenance of head-quarter building of Fisheries Directorate. 10. Extension and Training Rs 1.00 lakhs The outlay is meant for following purpose. 1. Training of staff at different institutions of the country. 2. Extension schemes for training farmers outside the State as per guideline of G.O.I. 3. Fish Catch statistics of the state will be done. It is 100% C.S.S. ABSTRACT 2001-2002(Rs in lakhs)
